Bio

Dave James was elected to PGA Membership in October 2002. As the General Manager of Meadowlark Hills Golf Course, Dave has been teaching the game for more than 30 years and takes pride in making golf fun and approachable for all students. He is passionate about growing the game, and when he’s not on the tee, he enjoys BBQ and spending time outdoors.

In 2023, Dave was honored as the Patriot Award Winner for the Nebraska Section PGA. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional patriotism and commitment to those who have served the United States of America. Dave’s work with Veterans through the PGA HOPE program has been especially meaningful—positively impacting not only the participants, but Dave himself.

Dave’s teaching philosophy centers on helping players hit the ball straighter by developing a compact, efficient golf swing. He emphasizes getting the club properly set at the top of the backswing so players can release the club correctly at impact. A simplified motion reduces unnecessary moving parts and leads to fewer swing errors. He teaches students the five laws of the golf swing—face, path, clubhead speed, angle of approach, and centeredness of contact—two of which determine direction and three of which determine distance. Once players understand these laws, the swing becomes easier to grasp and the game more enjoyable. One of Dave’s favorite drills is hitting 15–30 yard pitch shots with feet together and a half swing—a drill that often surprises students with how far a properly released club can send the ball.

Dave’s Champs program has helped develop numerous junior golfers who have gone on to compete in High School State Championships, collegiate tournaments, and PGA Section events—including his daughter, Olivia.

Dave and his wife Amy have three children—Olivia, David III, and Ellie—and two dogs, Ivy and Riley. In the off-season, you can often find Dave in a duck blind with his son, David III. He is also an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, serving on the Social Committee and assisting with small groups.
